Walter Sykes

Private 33851, 17th Manchester Regiment.

Killed in action on 30th July 1916, age 30.

Remembered on the Thiepval Memorial, France.

Former student of sanitation.

 

Walter was born in 1886 to Richard and Mary Ann Sykes of Hulme, Manchester. He was a plasterer with J. Ferguson, Builders, Lower Moseley Street and enrolled at age 24 in 1910 as an evening student on 1st Year Sanitary Inspection. He was killed serving with the Manchester Regiment during the Battle of the Somme.

Manchester Municipal College of Technology Memorial in the Sackville Building, University of Manchester.
