2nd Lieutenant, 3rd Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers, attached 5th Battalion.

Died of wounds 12th August 1918, aged 19.

Buried at St. Sever cemetery, Rouen, France.

Bert was the only son of John Joseph, landlord of a pub, and Mary Ann Scott Hutchinson. He was born on 7th November 1899 at Radcliffe and educated at Bury Grammar School (1911-191) where he was part of the School Officer Training Corps and played football. From November 1916 to June 1917 he was a member of the University Officer Training School. He worked in the building department of C.W.S. He served on the Western Front and died of wounds in hospital August 1918.
